Deoxycholic acid injections are simple and safe – complications are rare. However, it’s important to have this procedure performed by a skilled, experienced provider. Serious side effects can happen if the product is injected into muscles or veins or too close to the marginal mandibular nerve, a part of your facial nerve that runs under your jaw.

How Under chin contouring works
This treatment is designed to eliminate submental (under chin) fat. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the targeted area, it destroys fat cells, leading to a leaner, more defined jawline. This treatment is a minimally invasive alternative to surgical procedures like liposuction and provides long-lasting results with minimal downtime.

Once you and Dr. Kuzel have discussed a treatment plan and the results you’re looking for, your procedure can begin. Dr. Kuzel or his nurse will cleanse the treatment area. After this takes effect, Dr. Kuzel will mark the injection locations.
Dr. Kuzel will then inject the targeted areas below the chin using a very fine needle. The entire procedure typically takes 10 – 15 minutes.
Common side effects include swelling, bruising and tenderness around the injected sites. The swelling typically peaks the following day and typically lasts about a week.
A day or two after your appointment, we’ll check in to see how you’re doing. If this is your first treatment, Dr. Kuzel or his team will set a follow-up to assess your results.
You can expect results about four to six weeks after your first treatment. Your body needs time to eliminate the destroyed fat cells. Once these fat cells are eliminated, they’re gone for good. Many patients opt for two to three treatments for optimal results.
What to do before your treatment
Before your visit, avoid alcohol for a few days, avoid Aspirin, Ibuprofen and fish oil (Omega-3’s), and Vitamin E for 10 to 14 days before and drink plenty of water. Be sure to share any history of allergies and your list of current medications with our team.
